Opened in summer 2023, our pilot project, AREA 8 Nardò is perfectly positioned in the historical center of town nestled just behind the main square Piazza Salandra and a stone’s throw from the crystal clear water of the Porto Selvaggio nature reserve.
Independent access to the 75 square meter apartment is via a stairway up to the first floor with living area, airy bedroom and comfortable bathroom with a walk-in shower, 5 meter high vaulted ceilings and XXC Italian design furniture, all with large windows.
Upstairs there is a second living area with direct access through french doors to a breathtaking panoramic terrace furnished in contemporary Salentino style, a huge low slung sofa.
There are two living areas at Area 8, one on the first floor has 6 meter high vaulted ceilings and XXC Italian design furniture, like the 60’s
daybed with a mattress, a desk, a design leather sofa. Here you have a wine cooler and Nespresso coffee station.
A second staircase leads you to the second living area with built-in seating. The kitchen unit is 2 meters long and contains a basin, fridge,
dishwasher, air fryer, kettle and toaster.
There are two mobile induction hotplates making it possible to cook both inside and outside on the terrace.
The upstairs living area has direct access through french doors to a breathtaking panoramic terrace furnished in contemporary Salentino style.
Both living areas have a Samsung air conditioning / heating unit and mosquito nets on all windows.
The panoramic terrace is higher than most making it extremely private at all times.
It faces south west and is shaded late in the afternoons during summer months so it is just perfect to enjoy your late afternoon siesta
and sundowners on warm Apulian evenings.
Spend your time on the low slung Salentino style built in sofas surrounded by indigenous plants in huge corten planters and take in
the breathtaking view straight onto the baroque gem San Domenico church and steeple.
The terrace has a basin and plugs for outdoor cooking, and like all areas at Area 8 Rooms has several lighting solutions for you to
choose the one you prefer.
The bedroom is airy with a five meter high vaulted ceiling and fifties design furniture.
The bed is low slung and contains a king size mattress in natural bamboo and sheets of organic linen.
French doors lead onto a small balcony looking onto Via Legnaioli.
Double curtains to block off light while mosquito nets make it possible to sleep with the windows open on warm summer nights.
The Samsung air conditioning / heating unit is above the door and a Marley bluetooth speaker.
The bathroom is just off the bedroom, it is comfortable with a walk-in shower and bidet.
It has a window with an electronic opening. There is a professional hairdryer.
You will find a small but complete kitchen in the upstairs living area: fridge, dishwasher.
Induction plates are mobile to enable outdoor cooking where you
will find plugs, a basin and tops for your outdoor cooking experience

AREA 8 STATE OF MIND
In 1908 German scientist Korbinian Brodmann mapped out the human brain into 52 different parts, attributing AREA8 to several functions including that of handling uncertainty.
It seemed like a great name for our small pop up bar in a corner of my marketing office in Matera that I opened 10 years ago.
What started out as a tiny bar for unwinding after work has steadily grown into a serious business that has taken over my entire 400 square meter office and grown into a six digit affair.
AREA 8 has been featured in countless magazines, papers and TV shows including the the New York Times T magazine, Vogue China, Elle Decor, Milk Magazine, Guardian, Figaro, considered one of Italy’s coolest bars by Conde Nast Traveler.
With a crazy XXC vintage vibe, and the space divided into our Cinema with screenings of old movies from the seventies, the Billiard Room where you eat on old pool tables from Liverpool, the Library with vintage boisserie that I bought in Amsterdam, our space age speakeasy for next level parties and our ‘superhero’ bar – where our favorite superhero is always BARMAN!
I must admit you feel more like you are in Kreuzberg or Shoreditch, not in the Sassi of Matera. The project has attracted a wonderful array of creative souls over the past years including Wes Anderson, Joachim Phoenix, Roberto Bolle, Jaden Smith, Omar Sy, Gal Gadot to do a bit of name-dropping.
Apart from the soul food and amazing cocktails and music AREA 8 has led to other super exciting projects and products, spin offs and collabs. It has introduced me to some of the most amazing people I know, led me to make some of my most stupid mistakes and challenged me in ways I never thought possible – even for a Capricorn, Angosaxon control freak like myself.
Looking back on ten long years, I feel incredibly grateful and blessed for the people have contributed to making AREA8 what it is today. Looking forward to the next ten super excited to create, invent, collaborate and grow.
AREA8 is a way of life.

From the first contact with Mika it was smooth sailing. Early check in, great fast communication and advice. Mika went above and beyond our expectations to provide info on local beaches, parking, food etc. Her area8 casa is an artists/ designers home away from home. Vintage eclectic furniture just next level. Roof top private and with spectacular views. The sound of church bells and the comfortable bed – what more can i say but we are grateful to have found a little piece of paradise in Nardo. Grazie Mille Mika.

The apartment was even more beautiful than we imagined. Best location in Nardó and the rooftop terrace was a dream. Nardò is a charming town in Puglia and Mikaela’s accomodation is in the heart of it. Though the location is central, it is in a quite side street. Great restaurants, cultural life and programs. Not only my wife and I, but also our 7 years old daughter enjoyed very much Nardò.
Mikaela’s accomodation is fantastic, clean and stylish, but the terrace is literally the top of it! There are two rooms and the bathroom on the first floor and the kitchen with the terrace is on the second floor. All rooms can be air-condititoned. You must climb the stairs to reach all levels of the apartment, but it worth it.
Nous avons adoré notre séjour dans ce très bel appartement idéalement situé à Nardo. L’ appartement est aménagé et décoré avec beaucoup de goût. Le lit est très confortable. Coup de coeur pour la terrasse en particulier le soir. À notre arrivée, l’accueil de Mikaela était agréable et attentionné. Nous recommandons vivement cette adresse.

Has everything you need for a stay in beautiful Nardo. Mikela so was helpful and let us check in early. Roof terrace was private and lovely to sit and enjoy late evening listening to the church bells. Festival was on during the weekend in Nardo and the sleepy little town came to life in the evenings. Wonderful last minute booking. Thankyou
Charming little apartment right in the middle of old town. Great location with a number of good restaurants and bars nearby.
Wonderful rooftop terrace to enjoy morning coffee and/or evening aperol. Welcoming drinks were highly appreciated.
Mikaela is a wonderful hostess, very friendly and very easy to communicate with. She provided us with lots of great tips where to have a good dinner and places to visit.
When traveling with a car be aware that it’s not possible to drive into the old town, worth researching parking options beforehand.
We truly enjoyed our stay.
